Did you know that the United States purchased over $3 billion in Cambodian goods in 2015? The majority of these products come from textile manufacturers located across Cambodia. Recently, ambassador Heidt visited two garment factories: Pactics in Siem Reap and Cambodian Textiles Worldwide (CTW) in Phnom Penh.
CTW produces aprons, table linen, bed sheets, hospital apparel, and other specialty textiles. The American-owned company works diligently to maintain a work environment that is both productive and worker friendly. CTW also employs Cambodians in positions of management and actively promotes its employees.
These two factories are vital to the success of Cambodia's garment industry, which generates over 80% of national export income. But as the managers of the companies told #AmbHeidt, their success is due to the investments made in their employees. For sustained labor productivity and economic growth in Cambodia, the health and reliability of the garment industry workforce is essential.
